Mac computers can sometimes act up. Sometimes it’s due to user neglect. Other times it’s something out of your control. You can just fix your Mac computer in a number of ways. Now before you spend hundreds of dollars at an Apple Store or chuck it outside of a window there might be an easy fix for the issue. Let’s go over some quick fixes for common Mac problems.

Failure To Launch

Have you ever tried to start up your Mac eager to explore the internet only to find it not working properly? You might find yourself staring into the dark abyss of a blank screen or possibly a gray startup screen. When facing this unusual issue, it may be time to boot using Safe Mode. Safe Mode is a function that allows for your Mac operating system to start up with only the minimum drivers and software necessary. In this mode, you can run a check of your startup disk and repair any issues in the directory that are the source of the problem. You can enter this mode by holding the Shift key when first turning the system on. Release the key when the Apple logo disappears. It will then run a diagnostic of your hard drive which can take a few minutes.

Long Spinning Beach Ball

If you have been a long-time Mac user then you have seen the spinning beach ball at one time or another. Sometimes it shows up briefly while other times it can last for a minute or longer. Seeing it is a sign that it is trying to load things either in the background or foreground which can cause a slowdown of performance. Open the Activity Monitor by searching in the search bar. This allows you to see which programs are impacting your system’s resources. You can see the current impact that your apps are having on the memory. You can use the Activity Monitor to close out any apps you don’t need. Just click an app from the list, click the X button in the upper left-hand corner and select Quit.

No Internet Connection

Sometimes computers experience a moment in which they can’t connect to the Wi-Fi network. A quick fix for this issue is to make it forget the network and then reconnect it as a “brand new” network. At the Network page, which can be found in System Preferences, click Advanced which will show you a list of Preferred Networks. This list includes all the Wi-Fi connections that you have made from that computer. Highlight the network you are having trouble with and click the “-” button and choose to Remove to forget it.  Then reconnect by reentering your user credentials. This may be able to fix your Mac computer.
